The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during and after World War II. Many variants of the Spitfire were built with multiple wing configurations. It was also the only British fighter to be in continuous production throughout the war.
The Mk XIV was deployed by the 2nd Tactical Air Force as their primary high altitude air superiority fighter in northern Europe, with six squadrons operational by December 1944
