The Bristol Type 142, later known as the Blenheim, was ordered straight from the drawing board in 1935 and was a very advanced aircraft for its time, but the outbreak of World War II rendered it obsolete due to the development of fighter aircraft.
Used on all major fronts of World War II, the Blenheim saw extensive service with the RAF as both a light bomber and a fighter before being withdrawn from service in 1943 and replaced by more modern types that were less vulnerable to enemy fighters.
