The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the first series aircraft with jet engines. Between 1943 and 1945, 1433 examples of the twin-engine aircraft were built. Most but not more than 100 machines were ready for use at the same time. This was due to the massive Allied bombing, the lack of fuel and spare parts and the lack of trained pilots. Still, the airplane was among the publicized "secret weapons" of the Third Reich.
